SAFER PRINTMAKINGGolden Koi Studio is a workshop/exhibition facility dedicated to new approaches in printmaking. We honor the rich tradition of printmaking by exploring alternatives that are safe for artists and the environment. We discard most unsafe processes and techniques for safer printing technologies. One of these innovations is photopolymer film like ImagOn Ultra. Photopolymer is available in the form of a film which can be used as an etching resist or to create plates which do not require etching to be printed. The film is first exposed to the light, which hardens the areas unexposed to UV rays, while the areas protected from the light remain soft and can be washed away. Afterwards, if the film has been applied to a metal plate and is to be used as a resist for etching, the plate is treated like any etching plate. The film forms a tough shiny blue acid resist on the metal. Other innovations include:
Golden Koi Studio is a state-of-the-art printmaking studio. We have a 27" x 48" Dickerson DC-2 Combination Press, UV exposure unit (30" x 40" bed), full plate processing facilities, plate cutter and exhibition space. The studio/gallery is situated in the picturesque Heber Valley in Central Utah, just 15 minutes from Park City and next to the famous Snake Creek Grill in historic Heber Old Town. |
